We explore the old-world glamour of the Elysian hotel with principle designer Lisa Simeone

The rumor mill has been swirling for a while now about the newest hotel in Chicago. It's alleged to be the most decadent in the city with abundant chandeliers, sleek modernism and no-expenses-spared rooms. We wanted to put the rumors to rest and see for ourselves, and we're happy to report that the Elysian blew our fashion-focused minds.

This independently owned boutique-hotel struck our fancy, not for the fabulous in-room fireplaces or the impeccable staff; but because the entire design concept is inspired by... Glamour. Coco Chanel and Christian Dior, among others, have helped inspire much of the hotel's astounding feel.

The inviting and glamorous lounge of the Elysian

We were fortunate enough to tour the hotel with Lisa Simeone, Principle of Simeone Deary, the Chicago design firm responsible for the hotel. In this case, Lisa and her partner Gina Deary knew the hotel had to be black and white to create drama and timelessness. And so it is.

Elysian Inspiration Board

The lobby is a testament to old world glamour. A gloriously imposing chandelier hangs in the foyer illuminating the black and white marble floor. The chandelier itself was custom designed to resemble a brooch that Coco Chanel owned.

To the left of the foyer is a formal lounge, where rich black velour furniture pieces are intermingled with marble tables. An old-fashioned bar in the back corner serves cocktails to guests year round. The curtains, however, are the scene-stealers of the room and were inspired by a vintage Dior dress. Definitely love at first sight.

Upstairs, the restaurants are equal parts modern and vintage. The long cocktail bar on the third floor is named after Coco Chanel's lover, Balsan and stretches the length of the room. Low lighting and quiet ambiance trickle into adjoining rooms where diners can enjoy a casual meal or small plate over cocktails. Further down the hall, the restaurant, Ria is sleek and gleaming but with a vintage twinge.

But as any girl knows, the true test of a hotel is the spa. And we can confirm that this one is truly unique. In keeping with the rest of the hotel, the 14,000 square foot spa has an impressive feel but also manages to remain a relaxing space away from the bustle of the outside world. The spa boasts 11 treatment rooms, a mosaic tiled lap pool and extensive menu of indulgent treatments.

The hotel makes us feel as glamorous as the icons who inspired it. We can't wait to go back.
