When we wanted to do a piece on how to incorporate brooches into a modern wardrobe and lifestyle, we turned to one of the most refined and utterly stylish women we know: Third Coast Bride. With all-around fabulous style and an incredible ability to add vintage to any ensemble, the following article and images reflect her impeccable taste.
The beauty and supremacy of antique brooches never dawned on me until late last year. Perhaps I was watching too many Mad Men episodes or inspired by my future mother-in-law’s expert antiquing ways, but somewhere along the line, brooches became an intrinsic part of my fashion vocabulary.
In my humble opinion, pins and brooches are one of the most underestimated and underused accessories of our generation. Sure, First Lady Michelle Obama has done her part to “bring back the brooch,” but the history and significance of this elegant adornment often goes unnoticed. After all, in the 1950’s and TK’s, getting “pinned” used to be considered a big step in a dating relationship.
