NYFW virgin strikes back

New season, new me!

As I burst through the doors at the Mercedes Benz tents on Saturday, late for the 11am Cynthia Rowley show, I couldn’t help but smile. This season I decided to drop the stress and anxiety that punctuated my first NYFW in February and instead adopt a more carefree, relaxed attitude. So far so good, I thought as I glanced down at my black Nike thongs (I was late OK!) and my tattered Hudson jeans. My outfit and attitude couldn’t have been more different. At my first Cynthia Rowley show I spent hours (OK, make that days) planning what to wear and how to act. This time round, quite simply, I was there for the show.

Granted, a morning spent in the emergency room (after Ed-in-Chief Kari twisted her ankle) and a slight ‘wine head’ had contributed to my chaotic, don’t-give-a-damn attitude. And I’ll admit I did feel a bit self-conscious waiting in line with the fashion pack, most of whom looked like they had been primping and preening since the early hours. But once the doors open to the show, I found myself practically sprinting past the crowds (all staggering in their 4-inch heels) and bagging a third row seat. Thank you Nike!

From my vantage point the next 20 minutes were utter bliss. I wasn’t tugging down a too-short-too-tight skirt or worrying that my blow-dried hair was obscuring the view. Instead I fully immersed myself in the show—soaking up the models, the clothes and the general ambiance. And you know what? I enjoyed every single second.
