The iconic Rouge Automatic is having a renaissance

In 1936, sleek cities were vibrant with vertical towers, the world was discovering new technologies and there was a hum in the air. This same year, the house of Guerlain created a revolutionary lipstick for the enigmatic, complex beauties of the time. Rough Automatique. But when the war hit, a few years later fashion and make-up took a back seat...

Flash forward to today. While pouring over the immense Guerlain archives, Olivier Échaudemaison, Creative Director of Guerlain, found a small Art Deco wonder that captured his attention: the original “Rouge Automatique.” With a few changes, Olivier has brought back the beauty and simplicity of the lipstick and it's better than ever.

The new Rouge Automatique builds on the Guerlain heritage with a lipstick encased in a sleek, structural, gold chamber.  there's no lid to loose, it's a simple push tab device, within a gold square with rounded edges. Simple, clever and coveted. An elegant accessory steeped in history. Not only is the outside a beauty, the new formula lipstick on the inside is gorgeous. Smooth like butter, it goes on and stays put with comfortable ease. The color palate is perfect for spring and the texture glides over lips to melt on the mouth like second skin. And this all-around gem is available now at Saks 5th Avenue in Chicago at 700 North Michigan Ave.
