Golden Globes Glam: Get the Looks for Melissa Leo and Helen Mirren with star-stylist Creighton Bowman
As I sit at home watching the award shows in my Juicy sweats and Ugg slippers, my look is definitely a far cry from that of the glamorous celebrities walking the red carpet. Although the Golden Globes might not be my evening to shine, when it is my night, I want to be able to look as fabulous as the stars. Just my luck, I was able to catch up with my friend and celebrity stylist Creighton Bowman of Exclusive Artist Management to get the scoop on how he created the looks for two leading ladies, winner Melissa Leo and Helen Mirren at the Golden Globes this year. Now I can recreate the looks in my own bathroom as I primp and polish for my moment in the spotlight!
How to Get Melissa’s Winning Look:
Creighton said, “To create Melissa’s textured updo, I wanted a soft, romantic elegance to contrast with the strong architectural lines of her gown”.He started with towel-dried hair and applied a modeling paste at the crown to add more body and fullness. Next, he worked René Furterer Tonucia No Rinse Densifying Mousse from roots to ends through the lengths of Melissa’s hair.
I set my blow-dryer on low to give hair a soft blow-out. This helps to maintain the natural texture. Next, curling hair with a one-inch-wide curling iron enhanced Melissa’s waves. Spraying sections with René Furterer Vegetal Finishing Spray before curling helped to set curls while leaving hair soft and supple. To create a more fashion-forward, roughened-up texture, he sprayed hair with René Furterer Naturia Dry Shampoo, lightly back-combed hair at the roots, and then pinned hair into a classic French twist. Leaving a few pieces loose around Melissa’s face softens the look. He polished off the look with a finishing spray to add long-lasting hold and a glossy finish. How to Look as Haute as Helen: “More than the gown and the jewels, Helen herself was my inspiration for creating her look,” said Creighton. “The idea was to translate her glamorous persona and fantastic personality into a style that shows off the real Helen Mirren.” Starting on wet hair, he applied René Furterer Volumea Volumizing Foam, and gave Helen’s hair a blow-out, brushing random pieces to turn out in different directions. For body and height at the crown, he set the top layers in small Velcro rollers, using a finishing spray to lock in the style while keeping hair silky to the touch. Next, curling hair with a one-inch-wide curling iron enhanced Helen’s waves. Spraying sections with a finishing spray before curling helped to set curls while leaving hair soft and supple.Once Helen’s makeup was applied, giving the rollers time to cool, he removed the rollers, sprayed hair with René Furterer Naturia Dry Shampoo and brushed it through. This enhanced body and fullness.
For the final touch he mixed a styling wax and modeling paste together in his palms and lightly smoothed them over ends of hair for a sleek finish.
I can't wait to hear what he has in store for the Oscars! Stay tuned...
